Thinking About the Modern Web

Yancy Strickler is keen on describing the modern web as a dark forest — which is his way of saying that it’s fragmented, scary, and disorienting.

I tend to think of the web more like a spider web, but that’s neither here nor there.

What’s remarkable is how this same interpretation is also reflected in our culture.

Not just in our response to COVID and all the protests, but also in much of our cultural products as well.
