The Garden Bin Method

This site is something like a bin — it’s a container for a lot of different things.

It contains a lot of my old blogs from college, and over time I plan to add even earlier writing.

It’s probably the closest thing you could consider a blog, but in truth it’s just a lot of riffing.

So in that sense, it’s more like a garden. Garden bin.

Covid Origins

I started this site during covid, when I was living at home with my parents and trying to figure out what to do with my life after my personal training career was cut short due to lockdown.

At the same time, I was reading a lot of philosophy—seriously considering applying to PhD programs—and felt the urge to keep a written blog to synthesize and share with anyone who would find such things interesting.

I was also learning how to use Obsidian to keep track of my notes, and I wanted to find a way to use it to publish content.

Eventually, I decided to get back to coding and re-ignite a former career path in web development.

Lately I’ve had a few ideas for posts — and I wanted to see if I could use Eugene Yan’s Obsidian Co-Pilot plugin to write them, using the vaults that I created since I started using Obsidian.

This means that I have built up a pretty significant Obsidian vault containing backlog of content, which I hope to publish on this site soon.

The Stack

I’m using Hugo to generate this site, which deploys to Netlify.

I really like the build process, and how easy it is to maintain.

Over time, I may extend this Tokiwa theme or try a different one altogether.
